Was wondering where to have my last meal before leaving Madurai (during my recent visit) and I was spoilt for choices. I was so confused as to which place should I choose. But the mention of “Nalli Omelette” was the game changer and my family and I landed up at Amma Mess, Thallakulam, without rethinking the option.
Amma Mess is a no brainer while at Madurai but what intrigued me was the dishes in their Menu. Started off with Kallikattu Kozhi Charu (₹210) – a Chicken Rasam which is said to be based on a recipe inspired from Kavignar Vairamuthu’s poem from his book “Kalli Kaatu Ithihasam”. Kola Urundai (₹35/pc) satiated my love for good Kola(s).
Opted for Meals (₹110) and ordered their Viral Fish Chops (₹170) which was excellent! Loved it. Crab boneless (₹210) was one of the best that I’ve ever had.
There were a few first timers for me during this meal at Amma Mess. Idiccha Fish Roast Boneless (₹270) with grounded spices was just yummmmmmm. Spl. Bone Marrow Omelette (₹210) was definitely worth the travel and try. Having never had Rabbit Roast (₹270) and Pigeon Roast (₹270) in my life, I must admit it wasn’t what I expected it to be. I was sure I’m not going to like it but I must say, the gamey flavour wasn’t overpowering and the masala(s) were perfect. One more thing (food) to try was ticked off from my list.
Totally paid ₹2822 for the 4 of us along with repeat of few dishes and some takeaways.
